Several consultant pharmacists have asked about handling drug destruction in long term care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Texas State Board of Pharmacy recognizes that the procedures outlined in Board rule §303, as they have traditionally been interpreted, may be difficult to comply with.

During the current disaster declaration by Gov. Abbott, the Board will interpret the rule to allow for remote processing of destruction-related documents and for remote witnessing of the destruction by video, such as FaceTime, Skype, etc.

Pharmacist and facilities should work together to scan and sign the documents required in order to meet the documentation requirements.
