SUBJECT: Catastrophic Plan Coverage and the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

On March 18, 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a frequently asked question document (FAQ) that indicates that it will allow an insurer who issues catastrophic plans to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 before the enrollees meet the plan deductible. CMS nor the State of Nebraska will take an enforcement action against an insurer if they amend their catastrophic policies to provide pre-deductible coverage for services associated with the diagnosis and/or treatment of COVID-19.
